Legend of the Medicine Wheel

A most prized possession of Native Americans. These consisted of a circle of willow with a cross tied in the center. The cross showed the four directions: North, South, East, and West.

They were painted in four colors:

• North: white
• South: red
• East: Yellow
• West: Black

Each had a signifigance:

• The four nations
• The fours seasons
• The four points of the universe
• The four ages of man

When white pointed south and red pointed north is meant a time of healing.
