Legend of the Talking Stick

Legends and customs of Talking Sticks indicate that the person holding the talking stick was the only one allowed to speak. This shows the incredible respect they had for one another during, tribe gatherings, pow wows, family councils, etc. Only when it was put down or handed to another could they speak. This allowed each to have their say without interruption. This is the meaning of the Native American Talking Stick.
